Basic Education
Schooling in France is highly organized and controlled by the state through the department of education, although there are private schools, many of which are Catholic. At the age of 6 children are required to attend elementary school in école élémentaire in order to study the first 6 grades of their education. Some will be in kindergarten as young as 3. Here 1, or maybe 2 teachers guide them to a curriculum that incorporates French, personality, mathematics, and science to name a few.
Middle Education
The next 4 years are spent in junior college where they hope to earn their brevet des collèges certificate, although this is not required for further studies.
Second Education
Their last four years were spent in lycéé high school preparing to pass their baccalauréat or “bac” required to enter university. There are different types of theater diplomas. Série scientifique focuses on natural science, natural sciences and mathematics; série économique et sociale in economics and social science; and série littéraire in French, foreign languages, philosophy, history, geography and distinctive arts.
Students who are more inclined to teach prefer to follow a different education path during the last 4 years of their studies. They may choose between studying baccalauréat technologique which prepares them for advanced technical studies, or the abaccalauréat professionnel who prepares them to enter the job market immediately through vocational training.
